About Chan’s Work
Chan Hong Yui Clement (b. 1992, Hong Kong) is an image-maker whose work is concerned with photography’s formal, conceptual, medium-specific qualities, such as light, surface, spontaneity, indexicality, and depiction and representation. Often portraying his diverse subject matter in ways that defy easy categorization, Chan has incorporated into his work elements of a variety of styles and methodologies, including the snapshot aesthetics, documentary style, appropriation, digital manipulation, and lens-based experimentation.
Biography
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Chan received a BFA (2015) from the Savannah College of Art and Design, USA, and an MFA (2018) from the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. He has exhibited work at venues including Benaki Museum, Athens; Vermont Center for Photography, USA; Eureka Centre Ballarat, Australia; and Lumenvisum, Hong Kong. His work has also been shown at numerous photo festivals internationally. He was a finalist for the Photolucida Critical Mass award in 2015.
